Costumes

Districts: no make up, all look the same, girls braided hair, boys have short hair, girls in dresses and skirts, boys in collared shirts.

Capital: bright colours, head pieces, make up, clean, bright clothing,
all look unique.

Hunger games: suits, jackets t-shirts,simple, all the same, running shoes,
 colours.

Paragraph

Costumes are used effectively to show the imbalance between rich and poor, the capital and district 12, in Panam. For instance, this in seen in the reaping scene where the figure of Effie Trinket is juxtaposed to those of district 12. In this scene the children of district 12 are wearing dull faded simple clothes whilst Effie wears a vibrant pink outfit with extravagant wig and over the top make-up. This makes us understand how unwealthy the people of district 12 are compared to people in the capital. The purpose of this is to show that life in all the districts is not as hard as it is in district 12. Coinciding with this is the use of setting. The district 12 everything is run down and old but it the capital it is new, clean and colourful.

How is colour used to enhance the story.

1. green,dull,dark,browns,grey,white,black
nature\natural palette
district 12

2. Capital
whites,greys,sliver,metals-building's
bright,colourful-people

Colour is used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor. This is demonstrated in the two scenes- district 12 at the start of the film and the capitol as Katniss and Peeta arrive on the train. In District 12 a natural, dull and dark palette of greens and browns is used to create a wild atmosphere in
the capitol a metallic, industrial colour of whites, slivers and greys used to create a feeling of an advanced society. The purpose of this is to show the rich vs poor in the two societies. The Capitol has more colours and advanced buildings and technologies, where as district 12 has dull colours to show their run down buildings and over worn clothing. Combined with the use of costumes we're able to see the divide between the wealthy in the Capitol and the poor of District 12. This reminds the audience of the Roit scene later in the film when the poor citizens of district 11 rebel against the rule of the capitol.

Next step for writing an essay

Writing reflection

What goals are you setting

If it is an argument make sure to include what your arguing about and to add more detail on what i'm talking about. Also try to link my work at the end instead of trying to finish it with a good ending or sad ending. And to include more vocabulary in my writing.

My goal will be to focus on adding more vocab.

Art - magazines

Does your design reflect your thumbnail sketches so far? I didn't design any because I wasn't in this group until now.

Does your design reflect the feeling of your topic?  Yes because our topic is about sports and there are a lot of photos of people from Hornby doing sports and there will be info about it too.

Do you know where your leading lines are? One of our leading lines leads to the title at the bottom with the sports photo.

Do you know what your focal point is?
Our work is not finished so we don't have a focal point at this moment.

In art this term we have been designing magazines. We all got put in groups and each group got a topic. Out topic was sports. So what sports everyone plays at school or athletics. At the bottom right conner there is a photo of a group of students that went to Nelson for south island athletics. A few came first if some events which means they are the best in the south island. Thats what our magazine is about.

Evidence-Provide evidence to support your point 2-3 sentences.

Explain-Explain what your point demonstrated 3-4 sentences

Link- Write a sentence linking to the next paragraph.

Point-Everyone knows its better to read the book than watch the movie.

Evidence-For example, the movie made of 'wonder' is very different from the book. It leaves out lost of information. In the book the main teacher is a female but in the movie they are male. Also the camp incident missed out the info about auggies's hearing aide.

Explain- This incident made more sense in the book because he was bullied for having his 'lobo ears' which made him look different. It didn't make sense to bully him in the movie without them.

Reflection on art

We have been working on a type of art that uses shapes, colours orphism. Our inspiration is Sonja Delauney. We are designing our own types of patters and shapes but getting ideas from her work.

The techniques we were using were shapes colours and lines. You can draw them in any way it just has to be really creative and colourful.

My work is different to everyones because most people went for ether easier designs or they made it really simple. At first  didn't really like my work but i seen that mine was really different so i didn't mind it at the end.

This is my work its not done. But i didn't really know what i was doing i just drew different shapes and use different colours.

What worked out was my shapes and colours because its reminds me of her work. I mean hers is way better but at least i tried

There are many country's still in Child Labor because they have to work just so they can survive really. The slave trade triangle

They travel from Europe to Africa then Africa to Caribbean. Then they travel the same way over and over again. They travel in ships full of slaves to trade for guns, drinks, cloth, tobacco. The slaves come from Africa. A man was once there and told them he would return, once he return most his people were dead because of the chiefs that were in Africa. Once the man had killed him he took his people to be slaves to trade for goods. He had all he wanted but the poor African people were slaves to over 300-500 years. There work for the white people and who ever is trading for them they get everything they need.

term one art

This year in art we are learning how to shade different shapes, we watched a video of different shadings and how to use rulers for shading. We had a choice to start with a cube circle or triangle. I started doing the circle because I thought it would be easier to do. I went from dark to light to make it look more better. Then I had to do the shadow of the circle so I just made it look light because shadows aren't as dark.

my work

How i can improve
I think i should have shaded the shadow a bit darker or use the shading for the circle to make it look like a real shadow.

What I should work on
I think I should have focused more on the way the circle looked instead of the shading. I think it would have looked better if i did it with more shading.
